Season 3, Episode 20: Jose Chung’s “From Outer Space”on November 15, 2013 at 12:01 am
The main thing I learned from this experience is that Lord Kinbote should have had his own spinoff.
Thank you so much to all the amazing artists who contributed to today’s strip. From beginning to end, they are:
Julie Davis (Alive, Alive, Alive!)
Jason Thompson (The Stiff, King of RPGs, Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath)
Jon “Bean” Hastings (Smith Brown Jones: Alien Accountant)
Michael Dialynas (Amala’s Blade)
Patrick Farley (Electric Sheep Comix)
Karen Luk (Steampunk ABC, Encounters)
Rick Lucey (DOCBOT)
Mark Simmons (Fraggle Rock)
Andrew Farago (Cartoon Art Museum)
Chris Shadoian (Popcorn Picnic)
Dirk Tiede (Paradigm Shift)
David Morgan-Mar (Irregular Webcomic, Darths and Droids, mezzacotta)
Evan Waldinger (Tin Bird Press)
Please support their work and say good things about them.
I hate to be critical of Andrew, but Venus is the second closest planet to the sun. I doubt many humans mistake planet Earth for a UFO….
I stared at that panel for a long time, very very confused.
I had to count on my fingers: Mercury, Venus, Earth. Then was “Heeeeyyy!!!”
Silly people, y’all’re forgetting Vulcan. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vulcan_(hypothetical_planet)
Sure, Einstein claimed to have disproved it with his ridiculous Theory of General Relativity, but come on, the man was clearly a reptilian shill.
Ahh! It’s been changed already! They got to Andrew!
Isn’t the “this planet” bit referring to Venus? As in it’s quoting (or paraphrasing) Jesse Ventura’s explanation of UFOs
Oh wait, saw it’s been changed!
love Scully’s lines in this one
Now I’m just confused. I hope I haven’t seen this one.
Th is is amazing. You all outdid yourselves.
NOTHING IN THE X FILES IS AS LOVELY AS WHEN SCULLY GOES ALL OTAKU ON JOSE CHUNG this is literally the greatest of all the x files and you have done it proud 🙂
Also? CNR is laughing in Heaven 😉
I wondered what you would do with this episode, and now, having seen the result, I can’t think of any other appropriate way to do it. Excellent!
This is the single greatest XF episode and the most Fortean hour in the history of anything. The trouble with Fortean fiction is that fiction gives you closure and real-life Forteana leaves you with the realization that you don’t know and you never will and that closure is unnatural despite how much you crave it. This episode solves that and makes you like it.
You left out Alex Trebec. Who was supposed to be Johnny Cash.
He’s in panel 4.
Also panels 8 and 10, I would argue.
It’s so clear now, the flying saucer was Earth ALL ALONG.
Any questions (or answers) about my panel should be directed to Alex Trebek’s mother.
I never would have guessed that she would have a Cockney accent.
This is awesome! Each panel is T-shirt-worthy!
I’ve been waiting for this to see what the other guests artists did, and hoping it would all fit together. Brilliant result. Thanks, Shaenon!
Jose Chung’s “From Outer Space” is the best of the X-Files, or at least my favorite. And this comic broke me – once I hit the Jeopardy panel I just lost it.
Kudos to all.
Bweh heh, I remember that episode; good times.
Thanks for having me in the mix on this fun entry it brought a smile to my face which I needed. Cheers.
This is bleeping brilliant!
That was righteous!
