I loved the almost poetically unglamorous treatment of psychics it had: you have Yappi, this spotlight-hogging fraud, and then the two real psychics. One of them is a morose, elderly schlub with a ‘gift’ that makes his life miserable, and the other is this polite, nervous little man driven to murder out of a bizarrely accurate sense of fatalism.

“You haven’t figured it out yet? You kill people because you’re a murderous psychomaniac.”

“Wow, I hadn’t thought of that. That… yes, that makes sense. It really all makes sense now. Thanks: that’s a load off my mind.”
