Found this site via accident and, having been obsessed with the X-Files for most of the 90’s, think it’s brilliant. So, props to you, Shaenon. I also love the fact that there are still people out there discovering this show for the first time 20 years later. Think that’s a real tribute to the power of the X-Files.

I think the network Speedoed-up Mulder to distract viewers from Scully's missing nether-half. It probably only seems this way, but between The X-Files and Seinfeld, either Gillian Anderson or Julia Louis-Dreyfuss was pregnant at any given time.

I just watched this episode, and I haven’t seen the next one yet, but it seems really weird that Mulder was called into this hostage situation; it really seems like he’s being set up for something, though I’m not sure what or by who. Or maybe the FBI is just really arbitrary? Guess I’ll find out next week.

The hostage standoff is pretty creepy, I’ll give them that. There’s just something about people who talk about themselves in the third person …

I like that when they’re looking at the bar code in the episode, neither Scully nor the other scientist dude say, “Gee, that looks just like a bar code,” though clearly Scully (at least) made the connection. Saying that sort of thing out loud probably loses you big scientist cred.

Did the ‘scanner going haywire’ effect have any influence on the ‘the Hatch is about to blow’ effect in Lost?

There isn’t really any excuse for having David Duchovny in a speedo in this episode, but maybe there doesn’t have to be.

I always thought it would have been cooler if that chip had registered something in the grocery store. You know, like, tin foil, baby monitors or maybe even KY (for the probing!)

This is the very first episode I ever saw. My mom taped a few episodes and sent it to me while I was at sea. Nobody else on the ship had ever even heard of the show.
